TUTORIAL1 - STEP3
LeavesGenerator2 - advanced.

I show you how to create your own leaf shape for close-ups.

We need more detailed leaves at foreground then background. It may be visible if we use single poly leaves. LeavesGenerator allow you to use your own leaf model.
When you design your leaf you should use as few poly as possible. LeavesGenerator make a lot of copies of your leaf and your model may become to be very memory consuming.

Start making new leaf from one polygon. A leaf stalk should start from the origin of the axis. Make planar UV map for it. It is important to make UV maps for leaf - it will be very useful after spreading leaves on tree. Put leaf texture you want to use on it.

Look at the texture and make some divisions. Use modeler's drag tool to shape the leaf a bit. Good idea is to also twist and bend the leaf. After those modifications it will be never visible as flat planar polygon.

Put your leaf into background layer. In foreground layer you need same branches to grow leaves on. Run LeavesGenerator. You will have no access to several options because of a shape in BG layer. You cannot specify size, type etc. of the leaf - it will be taken from BG layer. Set rest of the settings normal - like in work with predefined types of leaves.
TRANSLUCENCY
In LW6/7 you can use lightwave build-in translucency. It is very simplified version of sub-surface scattering. When light go through a leaf it starts to be luminous. It is common phenomenon so you should turn it on and set its value to 80%-100%.
Add maps for other channels (translucency, specular etc.) and your leaves are ready.
